Claiming the Light- A Work in Progress?
In Unity, we affirm that the light of God shines within each of us. It is our divine birthright and our constant source of strength, love, and peace. Yet, we also know that life sometimes feels heavy. There are moments when circumstances, worries, or self-doubt seem to dim our awareness of that light.
The good news is this: the light itself never goes out. Even when we struggle to claim it, it is still there—unwavering, steady, and radiant within us. Our role is not to create the light but to remember it, to turn our hearts back toward it.
Jesus reminded us in Matthew 5:16, “Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.” This is both a call and a reassurance. We don’t shine our light by force or perfection; we shine it by allowing it to come forth from us.
When it feels difficult, we can take simple steps: pause, breathe, affirm, “The light of God is within me, guiding me now.” Each time we make that choice, no matter how small, we are reclaiming our awareness of God’s presence.
Claiming the light within is not about being without struggle—it’s about courageously returning to the truth in the midst of it. As we practice, we find that the light grows brighter in our awareness and more visible to those around us. And together, our lights weave a tapestry of hope, faith, and love for the world.
I hope you will consider joining us this Sunday. It’s always better when you are here.
Many blessings,
Rev Donna
